There were many, many different types of gold and sterling silver charms that were very popular in those bygone days. Travel charms were all the rage as were commemorative charms of special events and fun styles of charms. The more uncommon the charm was then, the more desirable it is for collectors now.
One very popular style of colorful gold charms were the enameled charms. While also made in silver these charms used bright colors to accent many different styles including the flags, coats of arms and state or country flowers of many areas.
Maps of the states in the United States or the provinces in different countries will often be seen as a theme on many vintage charm bracelets. Gold charms that showed the outline of the state or country along with other information or symbols were very common on bracelets. Each holiday meant another charm, often engraved with the specific date of the travel.
Another common theme in many of the vintage gold charms are charms that depict specific activities including cheerleading, school and graduation or even family and marriage. In some ways these charms aren’t that much different than what young girls still love to collect today, so they are perfect for even the most modern style of bracelets.
