Hi
We live in Australia and my son worked in a bakery. He got $8 p/h. You shouldn’t be taxed on it as it’s not enough earnings, besides, it’s highly likely they will pay you cash. Just remember, it’s often a very early start but you get to bring home lots of goodies too!

Good luck with your interview!

How hard is it to own your own bakery?

It is not hard to open and run your own bakery. It is hard to make a profit. You need $900 a month for the store location in a shopping center. You need $300 for fixtures ( cheaper if you buy them at a bankruptcy auction at the courthouse). No employees other than you for the first few months until you are profitable. No expensive cash register; just use a cash drawer. You could be open by this weekend.

Suppose you ran the only bakery in town that was currently very profitable. What things might you consider if you wanted to ensure that you continued to enjoy the same success in the future? What might you do to head off competition?

With a company like a bakery the only way to stave off competition is by creating barriers to entry. Due to the nature of the bakery industry (many suppliers competing against each other, many customers available, etc.) their are only two ways to stave off competition; either by producing a product that’s so good no one would bother trying to compete (although firms will emerge that will compete with you on price) or by getting the local government to enact favorable zoning regulations.

Does anyone know the name of a bakery that sells cakes near Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia that is a Mennonite or Quaker bakery?
There is a cake that someone had during one holiday gathering and the bakery name may have started with a "P" letter.

I think this is what you’re lookin for:

Bredenbeck’s Bakery

8126 Germantown Ave
Philadelphia, PA 19118
(215) 247-7374

Open Hours
Monday-Saturday from 06:00am to 07:00pm,Su from 08:00am to 05:00pm

Overview:
Get the best of both worlds- an ice cream parlor inside a bakery. Bredenbeck’s has certainly cornered the market on sweets from their small storefront in Chestnut Hill.

I hope this helped you! good luck! (=

I’ve always been a baker, ever since I was about 7 or 8 years old (even younger if you count Easy Bake Oven! lol)

I’ve always thought it would be so wonderful to have my own bakery and sell cakes, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, pastries, pies, etc.

What does it take to open your own bakery? Is it expensive? What are the challenges? Thanks for any advice.

Yes, you need plenty of money.
You cannot even fathom how much it is to open a store today.
People don’t realize
Rent
Security
Build out
Architect( by law)
Plumber( law)
Ansul systems( a ton of money) ( fire protection)(LAW)
Machinery( ovens, mixer’s etc etc ( all commercial quality).
Cases( refrigerators, showcases etc etc) look at those prices even used.
Insurance( fire, theft etc).
Insurance for workers.

That just some things, there so much more.
It’s not like years ago and I always say,
that if I had the money it takes to open a decent business today, I would
have enough money to retire, and that is no joke.

Challenges are never ending, from competition,
to keeping your costs down and turning over your products to realize a profit.
Not easy . Our electric bill this month alone was $3,000.
Imagine how much you have to sell just to pay that and the rent?
Paper products have gone through the roof.

Here it is in the nutshell,
right now, even the best places that have been in business for years are
struggling to keep afloat and many are even closing( especially restaurants( we are all related).
This is not the right time to open a business.
Even big chains have scaled way down and stopped planning new store( except of course Walmart).

I’ve just finished a business course which is what my information is based upon.

Before you look at loans work out all your costs, how much money do you need? Shop around and cut down the price as much as possible. Then work out how much you yourself need to live on for 3months. Add up the total and thats what you need.

As far as loans go you want to find a low interest, long term payment scheme so again shop around. But before getting a loan look into grants avaliable to you for starting a business, were heading out of a recession so people gain funding.

I know this is more based upon a real scenario but figured thats what the teacher is looking for.

the chocolate cups are actually just that, chocolate cups. i make mine with candy mold and melted choc. if you dont have any molds you can use a cupcake paper and just paint it with melted choc, when it has cooled peel the paper off and voila- chocolate cup.
and the fruit, if you put fruit in a bowl mix with a couple tblspoons of sugar(no liquid) and let it sit for a while the sugar will raw the pectin out of the fruit and make it shiny and "pie"tasting.
