BISTRO COMFORT, DELICIOUS AND TASTEFUL THE BEST IN HIS WAY

How do I make cake that tastes like a cake from a good bakery?

Is there somewhere I can buy the batter to make a cake that tastes as good as the ones that you get from a good bakery? Is it in the way you mix it or bake it? I’m tired of spending so much time and money on cakes that taste like cornbread or is just really dry or hard. I just end up buying cake mix in a box. I would like to actually make a good cake one day, though. Any advice would help. Thanks!

Making a good cake takes practice, and a nice batter will be as dry and hard as the boxed stuff if it’s overcooked (which sounds like your primary problem is).

Firstly, there’s no way you’re going to get the same flavor of a nice bakery cake with a box mix. You can’t buy pre-made batter because batter needs to be put into the cake pan very quickly after it’s mixed to preserve as much air as possible.

As far as I’m concerned, the best basic cake type out there is genoise.

Here’s a good recipe

The key to making a nice genoise though is the soaking liquid after it’s made. While it’s still warm, before you let it cool to frost it, add a liquid. It could be as simple as simple syrup (equal parts water and sugar brought to a boil and cooled), or your favorite booze (grand marnier is great).

The other key to making a great bakery level cake is what you frost it with. A good bakery wouldn’t touch that canned crappy "sugar and shortening" frosting with a 10′ pole. Classic butter creams don’t use trans-fat filled shortenings, aren’t all that difficult to make, are WAY easier to frost with, and are so much more delicious than canned frosting that you’ll never ever ever go back.

How much does a good restaurant make a year?

We are thinking of opening a family restaurant. I was wondering about how much profit is made through a successful restaurant. I know the first few years are tough but after the restaurant is running smoothly how much on average would the restaurant make. It is a medium size restaurant designed for both fast food and seat down service with average food prices. Employees will be paid a modest wage not minimum wage. Any tips would be great also. More info the better thanks

Okay..I’m trying again.
I asked my room mate who is in business herself, but its a gift business.
it all depends on location, overhead and your menu. The first poster pointed this out. I also depends on exactly how many people you can serve..how busy your area will be. the prices of food differ from location to location.
The best thing to do is find someone who is a small business planner. Check out locations, get a rental price, how much it would cost to set up the inside kitchen taking the lions share. And if I’m not mistaken, all waitress are paid minimal wage and what they pay taxes on is figured out with tips included..not what they actually get, but what the government says they should be getting.
Aplace that sells mostly sandwiches and rinks will not make as much as one that sells full dinners. Or they could make more. But we did try and figure out some kind of idea..if you have 25 tables, lets say..you almost have to make over 1 million a year and that’s before expenses are taken out. A small place can do that, her family had a small meat market and did 1 1/2 million a year!
so find a small business consulant..thats the best thing to do!
Good luck and i hope I helped. I did promise! ;-)

Atlanta area caterers with a liquor license?

Looking for a great caterer that can do outside (not at their own venue) catering. I would prefer feedback from someone who has either 1) used them for their own event or 2) eaten their food at an event they were invited to.

On-topic answers are appreciated!

Try Endive Catering.

Is it easy to open a chinese restaurant?

In the area that I live, there are a lot of Chinese restaurant I know some of them. Most of the owners speak very poor English, and all them do not have any degrees from college”’ even only have a middle school level ". How did they make it? how could they buy houses? how could they afford the BMW, Benz, with the poor English and lowest education?

They are ambitious and motivated to suceed. It has nothing to do with finding cats or illegal sweat shops in thier garages.

They worked hard, saved some money, established good credit and took out a small busness loan.

You don’t have to have a college degree to make in in life. You need one if you plan to join the corporate world but not for your own business. You have to be willing to work hard and be focused.

What’s a good name for a fine dining restaurant?

I’m planning to put up a restuarant and I don’t have any names in mind. I’m thinking of names related to the word "food"… or anything that would tell the customers that "hey! we’re all about food here!"
I’m planning to put up a restuarant and I don’t have any names in mind. I’m thinking of names related to the word "food"… or anything that would tell the customers that "hey! we’re all about food here!"

food concept will be european influenced. Sophisticated flavors, artistic plating and presentations. Not too much distractions in the restaurant’s interior. All eyes will be on the food.
if possible… one word only

what style food will you be serving? that might help people come up with names.

Ok…related to food…one word only. How about:

Gastronomique
Palate
Savor
Assiette (French for "assortment")

It would also be cool to name it after a spice, if there’s a spice you like to use a lot in your cooking, for instance, Clove, Chicory, Saffron, etc

Or a technique you use: Braise, Chiffonade, Julienne, Render, Saute, etc.

Good luck!

What are the best restaurants in Colorado Mountains?

I am planning a company trip to Copper Mountain and I need some ideas of good restaurants near Copper (Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco). I just moved to the state so I have no idea whats in the mountains and I need help!

We’re having about 45 people, so no small places. Price at this point is not a factor (I need all ranges).

Thank you!

My favorite is in Idaho Springs – Beau Jo’s pizza.

What is the best way to market cakes & pies to start up a bakery?

I want to start my own bakery. I have all the equipment and recipes just need to rent a space. But first, I need to get my name out in the streets. To get it started and make income.

We’re thinking of something similar. Here’s a few things that we thought of:

1. Take some samples to a local business establishment (bank, office, etc.). Leave a business card.
2. Word of mouth. Tell your friends, have them keep you in mind for special events.
3. Website. Put your link (should be easy to remember) on local bulletin boards at the mall, community centers, churches, etc.

Good Luck :-)
