BISTRO COMFORT, DELICIOUS AND TASTEFUL THE BEST IN HIS WAY

How difficult is it to start up and operate a bakery?

I am considering a career change toward something more enjoyable. What are the chances of a bakery bussiness being successful? I enjoy baking, am used to getting up at 4:00 am, and have bussiness skills.

If you have the money and the time… then I wish you all the luck in the world. It is so rewarding when you can do something you enjoy doing. Having a business is so consuming, but if you are willing to sacrifice then go for it.
My mother had a bakery/cake shop a couple of years ago. I had just had my oldest son… so I would help out when I was able to. My dad had his full time job (Wonder Bread) and could not help her out. My brother and sister had their heads so high up their asses that they didn’t want to help out.
The business was good, but then she started having problems with my sister… then my Dad. Then my Dad started thinking that my mom was having an affair with one of her employees… Needless to say, she sold the business… yes she made a good profit, but sold her dream.
So, Debbie, if you have the will, the money, time, and unconditional support… do what your heart tells you to do.

BEST OF LUCK!!

What is the best restaurant in downtown Minneapolis for a formal date?

My girlfriend will be coming up to visit me in mid-May and I would like to take her out on a formal date to a restaurant that is reasonably nice but not likely to completely break the bank. What suggestions do you have for a restaurant with a good atmosphere?

By the way, why in the world does Yahoo! Answers not have a section for Minneapolis-St. Paul like it does for other metros?

Restaurants have changed in the Twin Cities the last 5 years with a nice increase in highly rated NEIGHBORHOOD restaurants instead of the big chains or legacy (heritage) restaurants like Murray’s. So check around your neighborhood first!

That being said, the 1st link is for the top restaurants in the cities from Minneapolis St Paul magazine. (Always go with a poll where customers vote!)

Anther place to look for a restaurant is City Pages guide (2nd link) with a pull-down directory.)

************************************************
For the 2 years I’ve been answering questions, I’ve asked SEVERAL TIMES that we be added to the list of cities–even if it was as the TWIN CITIES. But we are fly-over country and anyone in California (Yahoo’s headquarters) or New York doesn’t see our cities as worthy of notice. (Yet, Craigslist does…go figure!)

Hope you have a great evening!

what is catering? what are the types of services caterers can choosmportant factors to consider in cateringe?

what is catering? what are the necessary requirements in setting up a catering business? important factors to consider/

What is catering? Catering is cooking for people anytime anywhere. The first thing to realize when going into the catering business is that it is a lot of work! I myself am still working at getting my catering business up and running the way I like it and I’ve been in business for over a year.

The very first thing you want to do is find out what your local health department requirements are. Most states do not allow cooking out of one’s home. A professional kitchen is required. After you get your health department licenses, you’ll want to get you business name certified, a state sales tax license, a city sales tax license, and talk to an insurance agent about getting liability insurance. The last thing you want it someone sueing you over undercooked chicken or something terrible like that.

Next, get out there and promote yourself. A lot of businesses today like to purchase boxed lunches for employess. That is a huge market. There are weddings, graduations, funerals, business luncheons, church luncheons, birthday parties……..the possibilities for catering events are endless.

Chinese restaurant with 6 small dogs in a circle cage in Michigan?

I was visiting Michigan a few days ago and I stopped at a convenience store. Well next to the convenience store, there was a Chinese restaurant.

Behind the restaurant there was a circular pen sort of thing next to an open door into the restaurant. In the pen were 6 small dogs. I was appalled and disgusted.

Is it legal to eat dog in the US?

This is a very serious question, I’d like to know if there is something I can do about this. I doubt they were there for anything other than the purpose to eat them.

You have to somehow prove it. What kind of dogs are they? Are they pit bulls? They may have them there to protect the property after closing. I’m just playing devils advocate. I think you are probably right, but you can’t just accuse someone of something without proof. So, maybe you can check things out, take pictures, document, then get the police and better business bureau involved. Most importantly, call ASPCA and have them remove those dogs and find them homes. Do the dogs look like they’ve been mistreated? If so, you can call them and complain. They don’t put up with anyone hurting animals.

What is the best pizza restaurant to work at as a delivery driver in the Rochester Hills/Troy MI area?

I currently work for a pizza chain as a delivery driver and feel that I should be making more money/have more deliveries. I make $6 an hour, $.75 per delivery plus tips. Problem is we average one delivery an hour. So after gas I calculate that I’m barely making minimum wage.

What chains might I make the most money at? I have no problem with taking phone orders, doing prep, cleaning, folding boxes, etc.

Well… "Kermit"… I’m familiar with the Rochester/Utica/Sterling Heights/Troy areas…

You didn’t say which pizza chain you work for??

There are SO MANY different pizza chains in the greater Metro Detroit area these days…

I would just drive around during "peak" hours… and see which place seems busiest.

I really like Papa John’s pizza, but that doesn’t mean that you are going to make more money working for them. Ya know… "Pizza Hut" is still the Biggest Pizza Chain right now… maybe give them a try.

Does "Little Caesar’s Pizza" deliver?? I know that their 5 dollar "ready-to-go" pizza is pretty popular, but I don’t know if they deliver or not…

I mean… we’ve got "Jet’s", "Dominoes", "Hungry Howies", "Papa Romanoes", "Dolly’s"… there are just so many places…

Ya, drive around and see who seems to be doing the most business… or, even go inside and ask a manager what kind of money the delivery guy usually makes.

What vineyards and restaurants should we visit in Margaret River?

My husband and I are planning a 2 week driving holiday around Margaret River. There are a lot of vineyards and restaurants so we would love some recommendations from anyone who has been there.

Laurance Winery on Caves Road is one of the more spectacular wineries in the region. The locals know it as "Chick on a Stick" because of the gold lady in the lake, and the wines there a pretty good now too!!They also do light meals. Try their Laurance White and Aussie Jeans Pink.

Cape Lodge does fantastic food but expensive and you must book in advance.

Wise Winery in Dunsborough also does great meals but not open on Thursdays. Book in advance for weekends as they often have weddings on.

Wineries worth visiting-
Swings and Roundabouts(great Rose’ and Chennin)
Settlers Ridge(Love their Lantana-Rose’)
Wills Domain
Knotting Hill
Driftwood also good for food and wine

You can pick up free maps from any of the tourist bureaus and most wineries
